Botany is one of the pioneering branch of life sciences which deals with study of plants. Being producers plants are important components of ecosystem which provides foods and oxygen to the organisms. It is one of the leading department of Shree Vyankatesh Arts Commerce and Science College which conducts academic programs at UG. The department has well equipped laboratory the staff members are actively engaged in research and extension activities. A good number of research papers have been published in various Peer reviewed, National and International journals.    Plant nursery development which is a job and skill oriented activity coupled with project work forms an attractive interdisciplinary component of reconstructed streams offered to the students from Science, Commerce and Arts faculty. It plays Prime role in wealth generation and socioeconomic status there is a huge demand of skilled professionals for grafting, budding , potting, repotting and other nursery operations. Nursery can itself be a very remunerative Enterprise in changing National scenario.    The department has taken initiative towards Social Responsibility in reclamation soil quality by starting vermicompost production to develop self finance skills in students of Agricultural background of B.Sc. The botanical garden is well maintained with ex situ conservation of some rare, endangered and medicinal plants so far the department has organized one National level conference and state level poster competition.    The subject is potent enough to provide job opportunities in the fields like Taxonomy, Agronomy, Ecology, Plant-Pathology, Plant Breeding, Tissue Culture etc. To impart basic education in life sciences.
