The Department of Chemistry offers two Programs: M.Sc. and PhD.
Post-graduation (M.Sc.) in four principal branches namely Organic, Inorganic, Physical, Analytical Chemistry along with Environmental Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Chemistry offering Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) to students.
The program outcomes (POs), program-specific outcomes (PSOs) and course outcomes (COs) have been framed in accordance with the local, regional, national and global needs.
A number of advanced topics have been introduced into the post-graduate curriculum of the department over the years and these are constantly updated to reflect the latest technologies that are evolving in these areas. The department offers post-graduate programs in Organic, Analytical, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry along with Environmental and Pharmaceutical chemistry leading to PhD in all six branches. Generally, at any given time, the department has 380 post-graduate students and around 25 PhD students. The faculty of the department has been undertaking research in frontier/emerging areas of development like organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, environmental chemistry, solution thermodynamics, phase equilibria ionic liquids, polymer science, and green chemistry. Over the years these research activities have led to individual recognition for many of the faculty members of the department leading to visibility and recognition for the department. The department also registers international students for PhD program. Till now the department has produced 187 M.Phil. and 384 PhD students.
