Abstract
The rapid urbanization and growing concerns over environmental sustainability have catalyzed the development of smart cities that leverage Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and data analytics. This paper explores how IoT and data-driven strategies can enhance energy efficiency and foster sustainable urban development. By integrating IoT devices throughout city infrastructures, real-time data collection and analysis become feasible, enabling intelligent decision-making and optimized resource management. Key areas of focus include smart grids, efficient public transportation systems, intelligent waste management, and smart buildings. The paper also addresses the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing these technologies, such as data privacy, security, and the need for robust regulatory frameworks. Through case studies of successful smart city initiatives worldwide, we illustrate the transformative potential of IoT and data analytics in creating more sustainable, livable urban environments. This research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how emerging technologies can be harnessed to meet the pressing energy and sustainability needs of modern cities
