Abstract

Statement validity assessment and its applicability concerning the analysis of witness testimony in sexual offence cases is currently being broadly discussed within the interdisciplinary German scientific community. The focus lies on the influences of specific assessment circumstances, such as the existence of psychological or traumatic stress disorders and intellectual disabilities of witnesses, while also taking into account insights considering psychological memory processes as well as false memory and suggestion effects. This article aims to summarize the current state of research on the evidence base for statement credibility assessment under the abovenamed specific circumstances and its assignment in the context of the current discussion within the scientific community. Furthermore, implications regarding further research topics are also derived.
