Abstract

Last few decades, wireless communication shown significant development in terms of speed, bandwidth utilization, interoperability, and reduction in cost. This development is more in the free and unlicensed ISM band as well. In the 2.4 GHz ISM band, various versions of Bluetooth are developed alongwith other wireless Technologies such as WLAN, and ZigBee. Performances of these technologies are degraded in the presence of each other. Performance of Bluetooth used in this band for various applications affected more due to low power. Through this paper, efforts are taken to evaluate and analyze the performance of Bluetooth in relations with Bit Error Rate for packet size and power in a heterogeneous wireless environment. A MATLAB Simulink model is developed to evaluate the performance of Bluetooth for voice packets. From the results acquired, it is clear that the performance is degraded by 6 dB. To survive Bluetooth in this band for various applications, adaptive power and the adaptive packet should be incorporated.
