Abstract
The period of newborn is very essential in human life. The birth of healthy newborn is one of the finest gifts of nature. Neonatal resuscitation (NR) is means to restore life baby from state of asphyxia. Resuscitation of neonate is more challenging them that of adult or each older infant or child. Basic newborn resuscitation refers to airway cleaning and positive pressure ventilation with bag and mask. Newborn should breathe spontaneously soon after delivery. 90% of newborn babies do not needany medical interaction for survival but 10% of newborn needs resuscitation. Material and Methods: a quantitative approach Quasi experimental the one group pre-test and post-test design was adopted to assess the effectiveness of structured- teaching programme on knowledge Regarding neonatal resuscitation among the Nursingstudents. The General System Theory was adopted for conceptual frame work. A total of 30 nursing student were selected by using simple random sampling techniques. The instrument used for the study was a structured-questionnaire which consists of two sections. The first section consists of the demographic variables of the nursing student and the second section consists of 30 multiple choice questions to assess the knowledge regarding neonatal resuscitation. The structured teaching programme on neonatal resuscitation was provided through lecture method for a period of 60 minutes. A post- test was given after 7 days. The data were analyzed using the descriptive and inferentialstatistics. Results: The knowledge score of the nursing student was poor before structuredteaching programme (STP). After the teaching programme 88.33% had average knowledge and 10% had good knowledge. The effectiveness of structured teaching programme was statistically tested by paired `t‘ value and the result found to be significant at p<0.001 level. There was no significant relationship between demographic variables and pre- test knowledge of subjects on neonatal resuscitation.
