About

Sandra Gyamfuaa Badu is a dedicated public health professional with a background in medicine, currently pursuing her Master of Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte). Sandra's journey into the field of public health is deeply rooted in her commitment to improving health outcomes through evidence-based interventions, health promotion, and disease prevention. Her unique educational and professional background has given her a broad and diverse perspective on healthcare, from clinical practice to public health research. Sandra's academic career began with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Shenyang Medical College in China, where she studied from 2013 to 2020. During this period, she gained comprehensive medical knowledge and clinical experience, which laid the foundation for her future career in health and disease management. Following the completion of her medical degree, Sandra worked as a Medical Doctor Intern at the 37 Military Hospital in Ghana and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where she further honed her clinical skills. These hands-on experiences gave her valuable exposure to patient care, the healthcare system, and the critical challenges faced by the medical community in resource-limited settings. Sandra's transition into public health was motivated by her desire to address health challenges at a systemic level, focusing on prevention rather than just treatment. She chose to pursue an MPH program at UNC Charlotte because of the program’s well-structured curriculum, small class sizes, and the opportunity for in-person classes, which provided an ideal learning environment. The program's emphasis on epidemiology and health promotion aligns with Sandra's passion for improving health outcomes and preventing diseases, especially in vulnerable populations. Her public health interests include health promotion, disease prevention, and health systems improvement, particularly in the context of epidemiological research and health informatics. Sandra has specialized in public health epidemiology, preventive healthcare, and data analysis, with skills in software such as SAS, R, and Stata, which she uses to analyze and interpret health data. In addition to her MPH, she is pursuing a Master of Science in Health Informatics & Analytics, a field that complements her public health focus by allowing her to use data and technology to improve patient care and public health systems. As a Graduate Student and Teaching Assistant at UNC Charlotte, Sandra is involved in teaching and research, where she applies her knowledge to support students and contribute to public health initiatives. She aims to use her dual expertise in medicine and public health to drive evidence-based interventions that improve the health and well-being of communities. With aspirations to work in public health epidemiology, health informatics, and pharmaceutical consulting, Sandra’s long-term goal is to contribute to the development of policies and programs that enhance healthcare delivery and reduce health disparities globally. Sandra’s career thus far reflects a deep commitment to both clinical excellence and public health improvement, making her a promising figure in the evolving field of public health.
