Projects
Design of propulsion system
The project deals with the study of entire propulsion system of ship and compared the values such as diameter of intermediate propeller shaft and propeller shaft form the first principles with society rules.
Design and modification of leveler bar mechanism
The main aim of the project is to analyze the operation of leveler bar mechanism identify the problems facing during operation. Leveler bar works on the principle rope and pulley system as problems identified in the mechanism the mechanism is replaced with rack and pinion and its design to increase the life span of the mechanism.
Design and analysis of composite shaft for ECOMET 1112 (SEMI TRUCK)
The project deals with replacing the existing automotive steel drive shaft used in ECOMET 1112 (Semi truck) producing power of 85 H.P with suitable composite shaft without effecting the properties of the shaft. This project starts with selection of appropriate matrix and fiber composites to be used based on the parameters such as critical speed, static torsional buckling capacity of required composite shaft design. Steady state static analysis followed by modal analysis for both steel shaft and two new selected composite shaft materials (E-glass/Epoxy, HM Carbon/Epoxy) is performed. The results obtained are tabulated and compared. The software utilized is ANSYS 11.The obtained simulation results are compared with the theoretical results found from the governing equations. The comparisons are made between the three different shafts taking minimum weight of the shaft as the criteria with respect to constraints such as buckling and torque. The results show considerable decrease in the weight of the shaft when HM Carbon epoxy is used with respect to steel shaft.
