Experience
District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO)
With a decade of experience in disaster management, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of the complexities involved in disaster risk reduction, preparedness, response, and recovery. My work spans various disaster scenarios, including floods, landslides, earthquakes, and storms, with a focus on reducing vulnerabilities and building resilience in high-risk communities. I have led multiple initiatives focused on community-based DRR, emphasizing grassroots participation and capacity-building for local stakeholders, including organizing awareness programs, developing early warning systems, and implementing risk-sensitive infrastructure projects. I have worked extensively in developing and implementing disaster preparedness plans at the district and community levels, including creating evacuation strategies and conducting regular simulation drills to enhance readiness. A significant part of my work involves conducting training sessions and workshops for government officials, first responders, and community members to enhance disaster management knowledge and skills. I have collaborated closely with local authorities, including the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), and traditional institutions like village councils, to integrate local knowledge into disaster management strategies, coordinating efforts between various government departments, NGOs, and other stakeholders. I have contributed to drafting disaster management plans, including evacuation plans, vulnerability assessments, and action plans for capacity building and non-structural mitigation, and have been involved in creating district-level disaster management frameworks, particularly for the South West Khasi Hills District. Recently, my work has included developing proposals for non-structural mitigation under the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF), with a focus on capacity building for communities, government employees, and all relevant stakeholders.
