Zhuang Traditional Texts (ZTT)
Journal Descriptions
Zhuang Traditional Texts provides critical editions of manuscripts written in the Old Zhuang Script, a character system based on Chinese but modified for the Zhuang language. The series aim is to introduce the rich cultural life and history of China's most populous minority to an international audience. Each volume typically focuses on a single significant work or a collection from a specific region, providing detailed annotations, phonetic transcriptions, and English translations. The texts represent a diverse range of genres, including epics, Taoist scriptures, ceremonial songs, and moral homilies. Many of these works were historically preserved by vernacular priests (mogong) and attached to chieftaincy lineages. By presenting these primary sources, the series establishes a reliable philological foundation for studying Tai-speaking peoples in southwest China and northern Vietnam.
