Journal Descriptions

Zeitschrift für Tropenmedizin und Parasitologie is a peer-reviewed German medical journal that historically focused on research in tropical medicine and parasitology. It published studies on infectious diseases prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions, including malaria, helminth infections, protozoal diseases, vector biology, epidemiology, clinical case studies, and preventive medicine. The journal played a significant role in disseminating European research findings in tropical health sciences during the mid to late 20th century. It primarily served clinicians, microbiologists, parasitologists, epidemiologists, and public health researchers working in tropical disease control. The journal was originally published in German with abstracts in English and later evolved as global research in tropical medicine expanded. It typically released four issues per year and featured original research articles, reviews, and field reports. The publication was associated with the Deutsche Tropenmedizinische Gesellschaft and was issued by Georg Thieme Verlag in Stuttgart. Over time, the journal underwent transitions and eventually merged into successor publications such as Tropical Medicine and Parasitology and later Tropical Medicine & International Health. Although no longer active under its original title, it remains an important historical source in parasitology literature, especially for studies published between the 1950s and 1980s.
