Zeitschrift fur Rheumaforschung (ZFR)
Journal Descriptions
Zeitschrift für Rheumaforschung was an important early German-language medical journal dedicated to the study of rheumatic diseases and related clinical research. Established in 1938, it served as one of the foundational publication platforms for rheumatology before the discipline became more formally structured as a specialized medical field. The journal focused on advancing knowledge of rheumatic disorders, including arthritis, inflammatory conditions, and connective tissue diseases, at a time when diagnostic and therapeutic methods were still evolving. The publication included original research articles, clinical observations, and discussions on emerging treatment approaches. It provided valuable insights into disease mechanisms, early diagnostic techniques, and patient management strategies. As rheumatology developed into a more defined specialty, the journal played a transitional role in bridging general internal medicine and specialized rheumatologic research. In 1974, the journal was succeeded by Zeitschrift für Rheumatologie, reflecting the growing importance and independence of rheumatology as a scientific discipline. Despite its discontinuation, Zeitschrift für Rheumaforschung remains historically significant as one of the earliest dedicated journals in this field, contributing to the foundation of modern rheumatologic science and clinical practice.
