Zeitschrift fur klinische Medizin (ZKM)
Journal Descriptions
Zeitschrift für klinische Medizin is a historical German-language medical journal that played an important role in the development of clinical research in Europe. Established in the late 19th century (around 1879), it served as a major scientific publication platform for physicians and researchers working in internal and clinical medicine. The journal published peer-reviewed research articles, clinical case reports, diagnostic studies, and therapeutic investigations covering a wide range of medical disciplines. During its early phase, the journal was associated with Springer-Verlag in Berlin and was widely circulated in German-speaking academic and hospital environments. In the mid-20th century, particularly during the East German (DDR) period, it continued under the supervision of the Gesellschaft für Klinische Medizin der DDR and was published by VEB Verlag Volk und Gesundheit. The journal contributed significantly to medical education and research dissemination in Central Europe. Its content focused heavily on internal medicine, infectious diseases, cardiology, and general clinical practice. Publication continued until approximately 1965, after which it ceased as a standalone title or merged into other medical publications. Today, it exists mainly as a historical reference journal in library archives and indexing databases such as Scopus and Medline.
