Zeitschrift fur Experimentelle Psychologie (ZEP)
Journal Descriptions
Zeitschrift für Experimentelle Psychologie was a peer-reviewed scientific journal dedicated to experimental research in psychology. It emerged in 1995 as a continuation/renaming of Zeitschrift für Experimentelle und Angewandte Psychologie, reflecting a stronger focus on fundamental experimental methods and theoretical approaches in psychology. The journal published high-quality empirical studies exploring cognitive processes such as perception, attention, memory, learning, and decision-making. It also included research in psychophysiology and behavioral neuroscience, contributing to the understanding of human and animal behavior through controlled experimental designs. Although primarily German in origin, the journal increasingly adopted English as the language of publication to reach a wider international audience. This transition marked a broader shift toward globalization in psychological research. In 2001, the journal was further internationalized and renamed Experimental Psychology, under which it continues today. Despite its relatively short lifespan under this title (1995–2001), it played an important transitional role in modernizing German psychological publishing and integrating it into the global scientific community.
