Zeitschrift fur Chemie (ZFC)
Journal Descriptions
Zeitschrift für Chemie was a scientific chemistry journal published in East Germany (German Democratic Republic) from 1961 to 1990. It was issued by Akademie Verlag in Berlin and served as one of the key national journals for chemical research in the GDR. The journal covered a wide range of chemical disciplines, including organic, inorganic, physical, and analytical chemistry, as well as applied and industrial chemical research. It provided a platform for East German scientists to publish original research findings, experimental studies, and theoretical developments. During its publication period, it played an important role in supporting chemical sciences within the Eastern Bloc and contributed to the international visibility of GDR research. Articles were primarily published in German, with scientific abstracts sometimes available in English or Russian depending on the period. The journal ceased publication in 1990 following German reunification, after which many of its research contributions were integrated into broader international scientific publishing systems. Today, it is considered a historical scientific journal and remains part of chemical literature archives used for historical and bibliographic research.
