Journal Descriptions

Zeitschrift für Anatomie und Entwicklungsgeschichte (Journal of Anatomy and Developmental History) is a classical German peer-reviewed scientific journal dedicated to anatomy, embryology, and developmental biology. It focused on morphological sciences, including comparative anatomy, histology, and embryological development of animals and humans. The journal played an important role in European biological and medical research during the 19th and 20th centuries. It published original research articles, experimental studies, and reviews related to structural biology, organ development, and microscopic anatomy. The journal was widely used by researchers in medicine, veterinary science, and biological sciences for documenting developmental mechanisms and anatomical structures. Originally established under earlier anatomical journal lineages, it became formally known as Zeitschrift für Anatomie und Entwicklungsgeschichte in 1921. It continued publication until 1974, after which it was renamed and continued under successor titles such as Anatomy and Embryology. The journal was published mainly in German with occasional multilingual contributions and was considered a key European outlet for morphological sciences. It is now historically significant and archived in major scientific repositories.
