Zeitschrift für Tierzüchtung und Züchtungsbiologie (ZTZ)
Journal Descriptions
Zeitschrift für Tierzüchtung und Züchtungsbiologie was a prominent German-language scientific journal dedicated to animal breeding science, genetics, and livestock production research. Established in the early 20th century, it played a foundational role in developing modern concepts of quantitative genetics, selection methods, and reproductive biology in farm animals. The journal served as a key platform for publishing experimental and theoretical studies on cattle, swine, sheep, and poultry breeding, along with advances in animal nutrition and production efficiency. The journal published peer-reviewed articles covering genetic improvement strategies, inheritance patterns, breeding value estimation, and statistical models used in livestock selection. It also included research on feed utilization, metabolism, and animal husbandry practices aimed at improving productivity and sustainability in agriculture. Over time, the journal evolved and merged into the internationally recognized Journal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, expanding its scope and transitioning to English-language publication for a global scientific audience. Despite discontinuation under its original title, it remains historically significant for its contributions to animal science and agricultural genetics research in Europe. Many classical breeding theories and methodologies in use today trace their development through studies published in this journal.
