Journal Descriptions

Written Monuments of the Orient is a long-established peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to the study, publication, and analysis of oriental manuscripts and historical texts. It is published by the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg and represents one of the most important scholarly platforms for oriental philology and manuscript research in Russia and internationally. The journal focuses on the discovery, translation, interpretation, and critical study of ancient and medieval texts originating from Asia, the Middle East, and neighboring cultural regions. It publishes research articles, annotated translations of rare manuscripts, textual analyses, and interdisciplinary studies that combine linguistics, history, and cultural studies. Since its foundation in 2019, the journal has played a significant role in preserving and disseminating knowledge of rare oriental written heritage. It continues to support modern academic standards through peer review and contributions from leading international scholars in Oriental Studies. The journal is especially valuable for researchers working with primary manuscript sources and historical documents that are otherwise inaccessible to the global academic community.
