World Health Statistics Quarterly (WHSQ)
Journal Descriptions
World Health Statistics Quarterly was an international scientific and statistical journal published by the World Health Organization. It was established in 1976 to provide comprehensive global health data and analytical reports on population health trends. The journal served as a key reference source for policymakers, researchers, and public health professionals interested in international health statistics. The publication focused on the collection, analysis, and dissemination of health-related data from WHO member countries. It covered a wide range of topics including mortality rates, disease prevalence, life expectancy, maternal and child health indicators, and healthcare system performance. The journal also included methodological discussions on data collection and standardization across countries. Published quarterly, it provided regular updates on global health trends and contributed significantly to evidence-based decision making in public health. The journal emphasized comparability of international data and supported global monitoring of health indicators. Around 1998, the journal was discontinued and its role was largely replaced by WHO’s modern statistical reports such as the World Health Statistics annual publications. Despite its discontinuation, it remains an important historical resource for understanding long-term global health trends and epidemiological patterns.
