Work, Employment & Society (WES)
Journal Descriptions
Work, Employment & Society is an established international scholarly journal published on behalf of the British Sociological Association by SAGE Publications. Since its launch in 1987, the journal has published high‑quality, peer‑reviewed research that makes significant contributions to the sociology of work, labour markets, and employment relations. Appearing six times a year, it offers theoretically grounded and empirically rich articles that examine the complex interconnections between work, workplaces, labour market structures, and broader social forces. The journal’s scope spans a wide range of issues including job quality and precarious work, organizational change and worker experiences, informal and unpaid labour, industrial relations, and the impact of technological, economic and policy changes on employment. Emphasizing both methodological diversity and international perspectives, Work, Employment & Society engages with debates across sociology, labour studies, organisational theory, and public policy. Its content supports scholars and practitioners in analysing contemporary labour challenges, informing policy decisions, and advancing knowledge on how work shapes and is shaped by social life. By encouraging innovative, rigorous research that bridges theory and practice, the journal remains a central forum for understanding work and employment in an era of globalization, change, and inequality.
