Word Structure (WS)

Word Structure is a peer-reviewed, international journal of linguistic morphology and all related disciplines. Its outlook is both synchronic and diachronic. Its interests are both empirical and theoretical. Its aim is to further the understanding of the nature of words, in every sense and in the broadest definition, in the languages of the world by applying to that concept the methodologies of disciplines such as morphology, syntax and phonology, of sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics, of formal, computational, cognitive and historical linguistics and of any other relevant sub-discipline of linguistics. Word Structure is a peer-reviewed, international journal dedicated to linguistic morphology and the interface between morphology and related disciplines. Its interests are both empirical and theoretical, encompassing synchronic and diachronic perspectives. Its aim is to further the understanding of the nature of words, broadly defined, in the world’s languages. The journal welcomes contributions on all aspects of morphology, including its intersection with other subfields of linguistics, such as phonology, syntax, semantics, psycholinguistics, or sociolinguistics. Studies may employ qualitative or quantitative methodologies, drawing on fieldwork, corpora, experimentation, computational modeling, or other types of data. Starting with volume 18 (2025), Word Structure is a Subscribe to Open title. When sufficient subscription revenue for a given year is reached, that year’s entire volume is converted to Diamond Open Access. When that happens, the volume’s content is published under a Creative Commons License at no cost to authors and is freely available to readers on the journal website on a permanent basis. In addition to individual research articles, Word Structure publishes thematic issues, for which the Editors welcome proposals.
