Water Security (WS)
Journal Descriptions
Water Security is a peer-reviewed international journal published by Elsevier that addresses critical issues of water security spanning environmental science, water resource science and technology, public health, governance, policy, and sustainable management. It acts as an interdisciplinary platform for research that enhances understanding of the drivers, risks, challenges, and solutions associated with water access, availability, safety, and quality under global change pressures including climate variability, socio-economic demands, infrastructure constraints, and ecosystem stress. The journal encourages original research articles, comprehensive reviews and synthesis pieces that investigate topics such as water scarcity and drought, flood hazards, water governance and institutional frameworks, sanitation and public health links to water systems, ecosystem impacts, water-energy-food nexus challenges, and the role of management and technology in securing water resources. With a triannual publication schedule, Water Security seeks to stimulate dialogue across natural science, engineering, social science and policy domains, fostering interdisciplinary research that contributes to decision-making and sustainable practices. It emphasizes research that is relevant to academic researchers, policymakers, practitioners and stakeholders working on water security solutions at local, regional and global scales. With strong metrics and a Q1 ranking in relevant Scopus categories, the journal is recognized for its high impact and rigorous peer review.
