Tropical Freshwater Biology (TFB)
Journal Descriptions
Tropical Freshwater Biology promotes the publication of scientific contributions in the field of freshwater biology in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. One issue is published annually but this number may be increased. Original research papers and short communications on any aspect of tropical freshwater biology are acceptable. Review articles relevant to the tropics and books for review are welcome. Articles solely concerned with the physical and chemical environment and theoretical issues will be considered occasionally. The journal emphasizes biological aspects of freshwater environments, including aquatic biodiversity, ecology of organisms, fisheries, and ecosystem dynamics. It also considers interdisciplinary studies involving environmental chemistry and physical processes when they are directly relevant to biological systems. A key objective of the journal is to promote understanding of tropical freshwater systems, which are often underrepresented in global scientific literature despite their ecological and socio-economic importance. Contributions typically address issues such as conservation, pollution, habitat degradation, and sustainable management of aquatic resources. The journal welcomes both theoretical and applied research, although it prioritizes studies with clear biological relevance. It has historically been associated with academic institutions in Nigeria and has contributed to regional and international scientific discourse in freshwater biology.
