Journal Descriptions

Transplantation Bulletin was conceived in the early 1950s as a scientific communication medium to support the rapidly developing field of organ and tissue transplantation. During this period, transplantation research was expanding through experimental surgery, immunology studies, and clinical trials, creating a need for faster and more informal exchange of scientific findings. The bulletin was proposed as a quarterly publication that would circulate preliminary research results, conference discussions, laboratory observations, and clinical experiences among scientists and surgeons working in transplantation-related disciplines. The main goal was to connect laboratory research with clinical practice, especially in areas such as tissue preservation, graft rejection, and early organ transplant techniques. The idea originated after international conferences in the United States and Europe, where researchers emphasized the importance of continuous scientific communication in transplantation medicine. Although the bulletin itself did not develop into a long-running indexed journal, it played a conceptual role in shaping future transplantation publishing models.
