Founded in 1938, The Historian is a peer-reviewed journal of historical scholarship, publishing articles, essays, and reviews on all periods, regions, and topics within the discipline. The Historian serves as a point of reference and dialogue across the field’s many communities, from aspiring and emerging scholars to established figures in the field, from community colleges to major research institutions, across the United States and around the world. The journal’s affiliation with Phi Alpha Theta , the national history honors society, allows it to reach a large and diverse audience of readers, from undergraduates to senior scholars, making it a particularly valuable point of contact for all who read and write about the past. The Historian is also noted for its extensive book review section. This section covers a broad array of recent publications, affording the reader an up to date survey of works in the profession.
