Journal Descriptions

The Counseling Psychologist (TCP) is a long‑standing, peer‑reviewed academic journal dedicated to advancing the science and practice of counseling psychology and related fields. First published in 1969, the journal serves as the official publication of the Society of Counseling Psychology (Division 17 of the American Psychological Association) and is published by SAGE Publications in association with Division 17. It appears eight times per year, offering frequent dissemination of rigorous empirical research, integrative reviews, methodological innovations, and theoretically grounded scholarship that addresses both foundational and emerging issues in counseling psychology. Articles span a wide range of topics including multicultural counseling, prevention and intervention strategies, research methods, vocational psychology, assessment, supervision and training, health psychology, and social justice advocacy. TCP also features special forums such as the International Forum and Legacies and Tradition Forum, which highlight global perspectives and the historical evolution of the discipline. With its broad scope, the journal contributes significantly to shaping practice guidelines, informing training curricula, and promoting evidence‑based approaches that respond to the diverse needs of clients and communities. It plays a central role in fostering dialogue between researchers, educators, and practitioners dedicated to applying psychological knowledge to enhance well‑being and social equity.
