Journal Descriptions

The China Middle East Review (CMER) is a fully funded, diamond Open Access journal that is committed to publishing high-quality, original academic research with a focus on the Greater Middle East region and its evolving relationships with the global community, particularly China and the Global South. With emphasis on practical development issues in the region, CMER covers state-building, geo-strategic competition, great power dynamics, and economic development, four interconnected research themes that collectively shape the region’s political and social landscape and drive its interactions with the global community. They are studied as keys to the understanding and analysis of the current state and future trajectory of the Middle East through multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research. CMER welcomes submissions in the form of research papers, policy analyses, critical commentaries, and book reviews, especially articles grounded in political science, international relations, political economy, sociology, and history. At the same time, CMER aims to enhance the understanding of different cultures in the region by encouraging original research from liberal art perspectives and welcoming contributions from fields such as linguistics, literature, anthropology, and cultural studies, provided that such research is closely related to the Middle East and the interactions of diverse cultures within the region and beyond.
