Journal Descriptions

The Swedish Society of Cardiology was formed on 30 October 1947, following an initiative by Edgar Mannheimer and Gustav Nylin . The latter was elected chairman of the board with Gunnar Biörck as secretary and Edgar Mannheimer , Lars Werkö and Bo Ewert from Gothenburg as other members. Philip Sandblom and Torgny Sjöstrand were elected auditors. At the first meeting, there was already discussion about whether to spell cardiology or cardiology. A year later, Biörck was able to sign the association's first annual report and thus state that seven meetings had been held. Meeting places were KS, Serafen, S:t Erik, SöS, Läkaresällskapet and Akademiska in Uppsala. The meeting took place in the evening and ended with a nod towards the night, when the waves of discussion were said to have run high. 74 paying members had been enrolled during this first year. Later came the newsletter Cardiolognytt, which in the early 1990s became the journal Svensk Cardiologi. The journal and thus the association later took the step into cyberspace under the proud domain name cardio.se which linked to this and the journal Svensk Cardiologi's joint website www.cardio.se. According to a clear majority decision at the 2014 annual general meeting, the names of the association, journal and website were now changed to a more contemporary spelling with a "k". To avoid confusion with other well-known brands, the Swedish Cardiology Association can be abbreviated as SvKF.
