Journal Descriptions

Studies in People’s History is a biannual, peer-reviewed academic journal launched in 2014 and published by SAGE Publications (India) in collaboration with the Aligarh Historians Society. As a forum for rigorous historical scholarship, the journal welcomes high-quality research that explores the dynamics of social groups, classes, gender relations, and collective movements in the past. Through its wide thematic lens, Studies in People’s History situates historical inquiry within broader societal frameworks, fostering critical dialogue on how different communities and socio-cultural forces have shaped human experiences across regions and eras. The journal encourages contributions that blend careful archival work, thoughtful interpretation, and theoretical insight, whether dealing with topics such as peasant movements, labor histories, gender-based analyses, or cross-cultural comparisons. Beside original research articles, the journal also publishes surveys of work done in particular fields, reports and commentaries on primary textual sources, and critical debates on historical methodologies. Its robust peer-review process ensures academic rigor, while its editorial board — featuring prominent historians — ensures diverse scholarly perspectives. Indexed in major abstracting services such as Scopus and UGC-CARE, the journal has established itself as a key outlet for historians and social scientists seeking to engage with people-focused narratives and interpretations of historical change.
