Journal Descriptions

Studia Universitatis Babeş-Bolyai Historia has been published continuously since its first issue in 1956, as part of Studia UBB series, under the editorship of Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj. It was published annually from the beginning until 1962 and, again, between 1974 and 1990, when it became a biannual serial publication. Studia UBB Historia is the longest-lived journal series established and maintained by historians and researchers at the Faculty of History and Philosophy of BBU. Studia Universitatis Babeş-Bolyai Historia aims the introduction in the academic circuit and the efficient promotion of the historiographical contributions of the historians from Cluj, the consecration of the critic spirit, the upgrading of Romanian research to general knowledge, the recognition of a highly qualified institution of historic debate, at academic level, concerning the aspects of researchers’ forming and the discipline’s status in an open society, the promotion of young researchers. Since 2011, Studia Historia is published exclusively in some of the major world languages (notably in English), and the members of the four major Departments in our Faculty (Ancient history and archaeology, Medieval and premodern history, Modern history and contemporary history) take turns as coordinating editors for each issue of the journal. This editorial strategy of tackling a large range of research subjects, addressing different chronological segments in history, that are circumscribed, however, to the Central European region, explains the thematic diversity of the issues of Studia Historia series. The structure of the publication remains broadly the same: it comprises a consistent section of articles and studies, one of debates and perspectives on major avenues of research / major contributions and a set of critical reviews related to the main topic of the current issue.
