Studi sul Boccaccio (SSB)
Journal Descriptions
"Studi sul Boccaccio," founded by Vittore Branca, has been a trusted reference point and indispensable tool for understanding the works of Giovanni Boccaccio and, more generally, narrative between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, since its first volume in 1963. It publishes numerous essays and studies by leading international philologists and critics. The journal offers the most significant contribution to scholarship on these topics, with challenging articles that are increasingly open to the most reliable and innovative methodologies, and with its careful and ongoing investigation of the manuscript tradition, revealing, in many cases, different versions of the works. Attention is also paid to the integration of verbal and figurative expressions, from Boccaccio himself, the illustrator of his "Decameron," to Botticelli, Rubens, and Chagall. Adequate emphasis is given to the extraordinary success of Boccaccio's work in its various aspects throughout the centuries in a wide variety of languages, with revivals not only in literature but also in figurative, theatrical, musical, and cinematic works. Founded and formerly directed by Vittore Branca
