Sociological Bulletin (SB)
Journal Descriptions
Sociological Bulletin is one of the oldest and most respected sociology journals in India, established in 1952 by the Indian Sociological Society (ISS) under the leadership of sociologist G. S. Ghurye. It is a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary journal that provides a platform for original sociological research on Indian and comparative social phenomena, attracting contributions from professional sociologists and scholars in related social sciences. Over decades, the journal has published empirical, theoretical, historical, and conceptual articles that advance understanding of social institutions, cultural patterns, community life, stratification, change, and modern social issues in India and beyond. The scope of the journal is broad within sociology: it welcomes rigorous empirical studies and critical essays that employ qualitative, quantitative, textual, historical, or mixed methods. Sections typically include research articles and book reviews, with additional sections such as communication/discussion and profession emerging in some issues. With a scholarly and double-blind review process, Sociological Bulletin continues to contribute to academic discourse in sociology by disseminating work that resonates within academic, policy, and educational contexts. It is widely indexed and used as a key resource in sociological research and higher education in South Asia and internationally.
