SIGSPATIAL Special (SS)

SIGSPATIAL Special is the official newsletter of ACM SIGSPATIAL — the Special Interest Group on Spatial Information within the Association for Computing Machinery. First published in 2009, it has become a key communications channel for researchers, professionals, and students working in spatial computing, geographic information science, spatial data management, and related disciplines. Published three times a year (March, July, and November), each issue offers a blend of conference reports, workshop summaries, technical notes, community news, and announcements relevant to the global SIGSPATIAL community. Typical content includes summaries and insights from the annual ACM SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems, workshop reports from specialized spatial computing events, and short articles discussing emerging research questions, tools, datasets, and trends in spatial data analysis and computation. In addition to informational and scholarly content, the newsletter also includes calls for papers, opportunities for collaboration, and news about awards and events. As an open-access publication hosted online, it supports community engagement and knowledge sharing across academia and industry, reflecting the interdisciplinary and evolving nature of spatial information research.
