Scandinavian Journal of the Old Testament (SJOT)

When the Scandinavian Journal of the Old Testament was first published in 1987, it was expected to become the principal forum of Scandinavian Old Testament research. Reality has surpassed the expectations of the founders, as Scandinavian Journal of the Old Testament is rapidly becoming one of the major outlets of international Old Testament scholarship, although without losing its specific Scandinavian character. Contributions by leading scholars have in recent years changed the scholarly understanding of the history of Israel. Such contributions have often been published in the Scandinavian Journal of the Old Testament, including the editor’s “The Old Testament—A Hellenistic Book?” (Scandinavian Journal of the Old Testament 7, 1993) that opened up for a totally new direction in the discussion about the origins of the Old Testament. In this capacity the Scandinavian Journal of the Old Testament has become one of the principal outlets of the so-called “Copenhagen School of Old Testament Studies.” But its scope has never been limited to only one position of Old Testament studies, and articles by scholars from all parts of the world and representing almost every position as to Old Testament studies are published in the Scandinavian Journal of Old Testament Studies. All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor, and, if found suitable for further consideration, to peer review by independent, anonymous expert referees. All peer review is double anonymized.
