SAFERE provides women with a writing platform which is feminist in content and orientation, as well as facilitating for African women to express their ideas and interests through a medium which is supportive and encouraging of feminist opinions and positions. The Journal is one of barely a handful of feminist journals coming out of Africa, and through careful editing and the collection of high quality written work, it has established itself as a journal of world standing from the time it was first published in 1995. The journal emphasizes the importance of African centered feminist thought and seeks to highlight the voices and experiences of women in Southern Africa. It encourages interdisciplinary contributions from fields such as sociology, political science, development studies, and cultural studies. SAFERE also promotes engagement between academia and activism, aiming to influence policy and societal change through research based evidence. By fostering critical dialogue and supporting emerging scholars, the journal contributes to the advancement of feminist scholarship in the region. Its peer review process ensures academic rigor while maintaining relevance to contemporary gender issues. SAFERE remains an important resource for understanding gender dynamics and advocating for inclusive and equitable development.
