Rwanda Journal (RJ)
Journal Descriptions
The Rwanda Journal is a multidisciplinary peer-reviewed academic journal that was originally established to publish scholarly research across various fields of science, humanities, and social sciences. It was launched under the National University of Rwanda and later continued under the University of Rwanda system. The journal served as a central academic publication platform for researchers in Rwanda and international contributors. The journal covered a wide range of disciplines including health sciences, engineering, natural sciences, social sciences, education, and humanities. It aimed to promote scientific research, academic collaboration, and knowledge dissemination relevant to Rwanda’s development priorities and global academic discourse. In 2018, the Rwanda Journal was restructured and divided into specialized journals to improve focus and visibility. These include journals such as the Rwanda Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences, Rwanda Journal of Engineering, Science, Technology and Environment, and others. This restructuring helped improve indexing, peer-review specialization, and international recognition. The journal played a key role in strengthening Rwanda’s research ecosystem by providing an open-access platform for early-career researchers, academics, and policymakers. It contributed significantly to regional scientific communication and remains an important historical foundation for Rwanda’s current journal system.
