Journal Descriptions

La Revue d'histoire de la Shoah is the oldest French-language journal devoted to the genocide of European Jews. Founded in 1945 in Paris by Léon Poliakov as part of the Centre de Documentation juive contemporaine, its title was Bulletin du Centre. Renamed Le Monde juif in 1946, it kept this name until 1997, when it became the Revue d'histoire de la Shoah. In addition to a specialized readership of academics and history students, the magazine is aimed at a cultured public interested in the state of historiography on the subject. For the past fifteen years, the magazine has adopted a thematic approach, devoting an entire volume to a particular issue. Occasionally, we've also added articles that are not part of a special issue. In recent years, it has devoted two volumes to Aktion Reinhardt (2012), four volumes (since 2002) to the place of the Shoah in literature (French, Israeli, North American and German), and three volumes to the Armenian and Rwandan Tutsi genocides. Also on the role of the Wehrmacht in the Shoah (2007), on Books of Remembrance (2014), on racial hygiene (2005), two volumes on the history of the Shoah in Italy (2016 and 2017), etc. The journal is published twice a year.
