Revue d’assyriologie et d’archéologie orientale (RDDO)
Journal Descriptions
The Revue d'assyriologie et d'archéologie orientale is the heir to a long tradition, having been founded in 1884 (a sketch of its history was published in issue 100, 2006, pp. 5-12 ). Its content has evolved both in substance and in form according to the needs of each era. But it has remained faithful to its initial goal: to communicate the results of research on the history and civilizations of the ancient Near East. Currently, it is published in an annual issue of 192 pages. Contributions are mainly in French, English and German. The editor of the journal is assisted by an international scientific committee of ten members, competent in the entire field covered by the journal; if necessary, the committee calls on external reviewers. The journal currently includes three types of contribution: 1) Articles, which may be brief, but may possibly occupy several dozen pages. These are publications of previously unpublished works (editions of commented texts, objects from excavations, etc.) as well as more synthetic studies, covering very diverse aspects: political history, historical geography, history of law, history of art, religions, history of science, etc. The articles sometimes constitute a thematic issue; in this case, they are often the proceedings of a conference. 2) Bibliographic chronicles: they present a critical reading of a set of works recently published in a particular field (period, theme, region or site, etc.). 3) Reviews: shorter, they allow the reader to keep up to date critically with recent publications. The Journal of Assyriology and Oriental Archaeology is an essential element in the international research system; the authors are French or French-speaking, but also from other European countries and the world of Assyriology and Oriental archaeology are the subject of work.
