Journal Descriptions

The Review of Black Political Economy is a quarterly, peer-reviewed academic journal that has been a central outlet for critical research on racial and economic inequalities since its founding in 1970. Published on behalf of the National Economic Association (NEA) by SAGE Publishing, RBPE provides an interdisciplinary platform where economists, sociologists, political scientists, and policy scholars explore the economic status and structural challenges faced by African Americans, the broader African diaspora, and other racially and ethnically marginalized groups. Its articles combine rigorous empirical analysis with robust theoretical frameworks to evaluate public and private policy impacts on income, employment, wealth distribution, education, health, and community development. The journal actively seeks submissions that shed light on economic disparities and that propose evidence-based strategies for reducing inequality and improving socio-economic outcomes for underrepresented populations. Contributors use a range of quantitative and qualitative methods, including econometric studies, case analyses, historical economic research, and policy evaluations. Through its sustained publication over five decades, RBPE has influenced scholarly debates and informed public policy by highlighting how race, class, and economic structures intersect to shape systemic inequality. It remains a leading academic resource for research that bridges scholarly inquiry with real-world economic issues confronting Black and marginalized communities globally.
