Research on Aging (ROA)
Journal Descriptions
Research on Aging is a long-standing, peer-reviewed academic journal established in 1979 that serves as a premier international forum for interdisciplinary scholarship in the field of social gerontology. Published approximately ten times per year, the journal is designed to reflect and advance the expanding role of research focused on aging and the aged in society. With contributions from sociology, demography, psychology, anthropology, public health, social policy, and related disciplines, Research on Aging emphasizes theoretically grounded and methodologically rigorous studies that explore the social dynamics of aging populations. Key topics include health disparities in later life, age discrimination, labor force participation among older adults, caregiving and support systems, retirement and economic security, inequality and demographic change, social stress, and life course perspectives. In addition to empirical research, the journal welcomes critical reviews, conceptual discussions, and policy-oriented analyses that shape both academic discourse and practical approaches in aging research. Under the guidance of Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey E. Stokes, Research on Aging continues to contribute to global understanding of the complex interplay between aging processes and social structures, informing researchers, policymakers, and practitioners alike.
