Journal Descriptions

In the first article, Blees, Konrad and Opitz-Welke investigate the use of cannabis to improve treatment adherence to antipsychotic therapy. Between July 2021 and May 2023, five male inmates of a Berlin correctional hospital with pre-existing cannabis dependence received low-dose dronabinol as part of their therapy. The study shows that the addition of dronabinol led to improved treatment adherence and a significant improvement in psychopathology. Rüter's second text deals with criminal responsibility in cases of gambling addiction , in particular with the question of whether the development of psychiatric classifications influences jurisprudence. It examines whether the psychological sciences are developing further with regard to the disorder of gambling addiction and whether jurisprudence is adapting its assessment of the criminal responsibility of delinquent gambling addicts to these changes. The following article by Kös, Bräunig, Konrad, Calvano and Hausam deals with the order and duration of the placement of forcibly placed persons according to Section 23 Paragraph 1 PsychKG Berlin . The study examines information from hospital records of 243 people who were admitted by the Social Psychiatric Service of the Vivantes Humboldt Clinic in Berlin between 2018 and 2020. The results show that gender, suicidality and a judicial hearing on the day of admission are related to the court's placement order. In the fourth text, Scheuschner, Walde and Völlm examine the question of which predictors are crucial for the success of a placement under Section 64 of the Criminal Code , since almost half of the placements are terminated prematurely. The study focused on an intermediate group of patients who expressed a desire to terminate therapy but then successfully continued therapy (n = 12). The results suggest that ambivalent patients could possibly be better supported in the course of treatment through earlier identification. The last article is entitled "When even a flash in the pan only smolders briefly" and was written by Querengässer and Bezzel. It deals with the effects of the 2016 amendment to the Bavarian correctional system on placement under Section 63 of the Criminal Code, based on the follow-up data collected as part of the Bavarian quality assurance (n = 795). Almost the only noticeable change was the number of placements terminated due to disproportionateness; no differences could be found in other indicators of successful resocialization. In particular, the hoped-for effect of shortening the duration of treatment could not be confirmed.

Evaluation of operationalized criteria for assessing criminal responsibility in paraphilic disorder.

Despite the high legal significance of expert reports on sex offenders, the assessment criteria leave a lot of room for subjective leeway. In order to make the progress of standardized progn...
