Qualitative Social Work (QSW)
Journal Descriptions
Since its launch in 2002, Qualitative Social Work has emerged as a key international journal at the intersection of qualitative research and social work practice. The journal publishes original research, reflective analyses, methodological innovations, and critical evaluations that foreground the role of qualitative inquiry in understanding complex social work contexts and practices. It aims to connect scholars and practitioners by fostering dialogue across international and interdisciplinary boundaries, inviting contributions that advance both research methodology and professional application. Its articles cover diverse qualitative approaches — including ethnography, narrative analysis, autoethnography, and participatory methods — and often address issues such as reflective practice, critical theory, outcomes of qualitative evaluation, and the implications of research for practice and policy. Contributors are encouraged to engage with contemporary debates in social work and to explore how qualitative methods enrich understanding of lived experiences, professional challenges, and service environments. As a journal published by SAGE Publications, it upholds rigorous peer review standards, ensuring that contributions maintain academic excellence while remaining relevant and accessible to practitioners and researchers alike. Through its regular issues, special features, commentary and dialogues, Qualitative Social Work continues to shape methodological and conceptual developments in the field.
