Psycoloquy (Psycoloquy)

Psycoloquy was one of the earliest peer reviewed electronic scientific journals in psychology and cognitive science. Established in 1996 and sponsored by the American Psychological Association, the journal became internationally recognized as a pioneering model for internet based scholarly communication. Unlike traditional print journals, Psycoloquy operated entirely online and emphasized rapid academic exchange through open peer commentary. The journal published articles in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science, artificial intelligence, behavioral biology, linguistics, philosophy, and related interdisciplinary areas. A unique feature of the journal was its interactive format, where published target articles were followed by expert commentaries and author responses, encouraging scholarly debate and intellectual exchange. This format helped advance early concepts of electronic publishing and collaborative scientific discussion on the internet. Psycoloquy was edited by cognitive scientist Stevan Harnad and became influential in the development of open access and digital academic publishing practices. The journal was indexed in PsycINFO and other scientific databases and gained recognition for innovation in electronic scholarship. Publication was suspended in 2002, but the journal remains historically important as one of the first successful refereed online journals in the behavioral and cognitive sciences.
