Journal Descriptions

Proceedings from the Document Academy is an international peer-reviewed open-access journal published by the Document Academy and hosted by the University of Akron Press. The journal provides a scholarly platform for the publication of conference proceedings, special issues, and original research focused on the concept of the document in its broadest sense. It emerged from the former Proceedings from the Annual Meeting of the Document Academy and adopted its current title in 2019. The journal promotes interdisciplinary dialogue among scholars, artists, librarians, archivists, museum professionals, educators, and researchers interested in documentation, information, media, culture, and knowledge organization. Its scope encompasses theoretical, historical, philosophical, and practical perspectives on documents and documentary practices. The journal encourages innovative and experimental research crossing disciplinary boundaries in the humanities, social sciences, information science, communication studies, archives, museums, and digital culture. All articles are freely available online under an open-access model without article processing charges. The journal is indexed in major databases including Scopus and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), enhancing its international visibility. It serves as an important venue for advancing document theory and fostering global scholarly discussion about the nature, use, and impact of documents in society.
