Primary Dental Journal (PDJ)
Journal Descriptions
Primary Dental Journal (PDJ) is a peer-reviewed quarterly publication dedicated to advancing clinical practice, professional development, and evidence-based care in primary dentistry. Launched in 2012 following the consolidation of earlier titles, the journal serves as the flagship professional development journal of the College of General Dentistry (CGDent) in the United Kingdom. It provides high-quality content that bridges research and daily clinical practice, tailored to the needs of general dental practitioners (GDPs), dental care professionals (DCPs), and interdisciplinary teams in primary care settings. Each year’s volume typically includes themed issues focusing on topics such as oral medicine, leadership in dental practice, temporomandibular disorders, and general dentistry, in addition to a general issue that spans diverse aspects of dental care. PDJ’s content encompasses original clinical research, reviews, scenario-based articles, editorials, and evidence-based best practice updates that are directly relevant to improving patient outcomes in routine dental practice. Indexed in major databases including MEDLINE/PubMed and Scopus, the journal is internationally recognized and accessed by academic institutions and clinics worldwide. By translating current evidence into practical insights and fostering discourse on clinical innovations and professional issues, Primary Dental Journal supports continuing education, reflective practice, and the integration of emerging evidence into everyday dental care.
