Physics in Medicine & Biology (PM&B)
Journal Descriptions
Physics in Medicine & Biology is a long‑established, peer‑reviewed scientific journal focusing on the application of physics to medicine, physiology and biology. Founded in 1956, it has become one of the leading journals in medical physics, publishing original research on topics such as radiotherapy physics, dosimetry, biomedical imaging technologies, image reconstruction and quantitative analysis, radiation protection, and computational methods for medical applications. The journal appears biweekly, producing 24 issues per year, and welcomes contributions that integrate theoretical, experimental and computational physics with clinical and biological problems. It is published by IOP Publishing Ltd. on behalf of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine and is indexed in major scientific databases including PubMed/MEDLINE, INSPEC, Chemical Abstracts, Compendex and more. The Editor‑in‑Chief is Katia Parodi, a distinguished medical physicist based at Ludwig‑Maximilians‑Universität München. The journal serves an international community of researchers, clinicians and engineers working at the intersection of physics and health sciences, and continues to support rigorous scientific advancement in both foundational and translational biomedical physics.
