Physical Biology (PB)
Journal Descriptions
Physical Biology is a peer‑reviewed international scientific journal published by IOP Publishing Ltd. that focuses on interdisciplinary research at the intersection of physics, quantitative biology, biophysics and systems biology. The journal’s scope encompasses studies where quantitative, physical and mathematical approaches are used to understand biological systems at molecular, cellular and multicellular scales. It welcomes theoretical, experimental and computational research that applies physical principles to biological phenomena, including molecular biophysics, protein interactions, subcellular structure and dynamics, intracellular transport, cellular mechanics, microenvironment interactions, signaling networks and systems biology models. The journal also publishes research papers, review articles, notes, letters and perspectives that bring new insights into biological processes through rigorous physical analysis. Physical Biology aims to bridge biology and physical science by encouraging cross‑disciplinary work that helps illuminate underlying mechanisms in life sciences using physics‑based methods or models. Its hybrid open‑access policy allows authors to make articles freely available by paying an article‑processing charge or to publish traditionally under subscription access. The journal is indexed in major scientific databases and is widely read by researchers in biophysics, quantitative biology, computational biology and related fields.
