Photon Science (PS)

Photon Science is a cutting-edge open-access scientific journal launched in 2025 by ACS Publications in collaboration with ShanghaiTech University. It was established in response to the rapid evolution of facility-based science, where modern photon, electron, and neutron sources are driving groundbreaking research across physics, chemistry, materials science, and life sciences. As a multidisciplinary platform, the journal publishes original, peer-reviewed research articles, communications, reviews, perspectives, and methods/protocols demonstrating significant advances in both fundamental science and technological applications involving photon interactions and advanced instrumentation. Topics of interest include photon- and electron-matter interactions, energy materials, catalysis, spectroscopy, imaging, photonics devices, advanced light sources, and data-intensive methodologies, including machine learning-enhanced analyses. Photon Science emphasizes interdisciplinary work that bridges experimental innovations at large-scale facilities with theory, computation, and applications that address societal challenges in energy, technology, and health. The journal operates a transparent peer-review process and, during its initial years, offers waived article publishing charges (APCs) for submissions accepted through late 2027, promoting broad participation from the global research community. Photon Science is positioned to become a leading venue for researchers seeking rapid dissemination of transformative facility-based scientific discoveries.
