Journal Descriptions

The Peritoneal Dialysis Bulletin was an early nephrology communication publication designed to rapidly share clinical experiences, research observations, and technical updates in the emerging field of peritoneal dialysis. It originated in the early 1980s as an informal bulletin created by clinicians and researchers working in dialysis units, particularly to exchange practical knowledge about peritoneal dialysis techniques, complications, and patient management strategies. Unlike traditional peer reviewed journals, the bulletin initially functioned as a short, practice oriented publication distributed among nephrology professionals. It included case reports, procedural updates, early research findings, and clinical discussions related to dialysis catheter management, peritonitis prevention, dialysis solutions, and renal replacement therapy innovations. As the field of peritoneal dialysis expanded globally, the bulletin gradually evolved into a more structured scientific publication. It eventually developed into or merged with Peritoneal Dialysis International, which became the major peer reviewed journal for this specialty. This transition marked the shift from a small communication bulletin to a fully indexed international medical journal.
