Participations (Participations)
Journal Descriptions
Citizen participation in negotiations and public debates, as well as in expert appraisal and decision-making processes, has become a central and cross-disciplinary subject for research in the humanities and social sciences, making it necessary to create a journal capable of reflecting the diversity of this work. The journal Participations aims to mobilize the views and contributions of the various disciplines involved (sociology, political science, philosophy, history, urban planning, geography, social psychology, information and communication sciences, economics, etc.) on the common subject of public participation in collective choices in contemporary democracies, without theoretical or methodological exclusivity. The creation of this journal is part of a structuring of this field of research, as evidenced by the emergence of a Groupement d'Intérêt Scientifique, entitled "Participation du public, décision, démocratie participative", which actively supports the journal. Participations is open to both theoretical and empirical contributions concerning participatory democracy, the conditions of deliberation, transformations in the forms and practices of citizenship, the structuring of public space, urban governance, public involvement in decision-making processes, social, technical or medical democracy, socio-technical controversies or the evaluation of participatory tools and devices. As a French-language journal, Participations aims to foster exchanges between different research communities (France, Belgium, Quebec, Switzerland, etc.), while remaining open to articles by non-French-speaking researchers.
